WASHINGTON — Fresh off helping the Army through a new security-driven remote work mandate, today Hypori, a virtual desktop software provider, announced it has been awarded a $4.1 million contract to provide 10,000 licenses of its Hypori Halo software across the Department of the Air Force (DAF). 

The contract is part of the company’s Workspace Anywhere program that uses its Halo virtual desktop software to allow users to access official accounts on Microsoft Office 365 platforms on their smartphones or personal tablets while on an impact level 5 cloud environment — the most secure environment for controlled unclassified information.

The company said in a press release that this award is part of its initiative to support the “digital transformation of the Air Force and Space Force.” 

“The DAF Workspace Anywhere program uses Hypori Halo to provide Airmen, Guardians, civilians, and contractors the convenience of easy, one-app access to DoD365 services and the ability to digitally sign documents from their personal smartphone or tablet,” the company said in a press release. 

Earlier this year, the DAF trialed Hypori’s Workspace Anywhere program, which ended in March, after the Army adopted it in line with a new policy requiring secure virtual desktop access for soldiers, Guardsmen and Reservists on mobile devices.

Though some users said the Army’s June 1 virtual desktop mandate rollout was clumsy, as previously reported by Breaking Defense, the Army expressed confidence that the virtual desktop platforms, including Hypori, worked for the majority of users. 

Hypori said in the press release that its virtual desktop ensures that the user’s private data stored elsewhere on their personal devices is “inaccessible to the government and is secure against being wiped or seized in the event of a breach or incident,” adding that the software is designed around “zero-trust access.”

The Workspace Anywhere program opens for the Air Force and Space Force in Fall 2024. Service members can join the waitlist today on the Hypori website.
